Big Data and Climate Change in Barcelona

The city council of Barcelona floated a challenge to come up with innovative ideas in order to fight climate change. Worked with the city council to help make the city more sustainable and help the city fight climate change through sustainable urban developement. Conducted on-site observation and research, used data collected by the city council through various means and proposed solutions to tackle excessive heat wave problem in the city. My team won the challenge among participating teams from 13 different countries and received financing opportunity from the European Union in order to further implement our proposed solution.

Building an image search engine using ML algorithms

This was a class project for the course "Introduction to Machine Learning".The main objective of this project was to create an image search engine where a query image is fed to a model that will return the most N similar images from a gallery. The expected algorithm’s output was therefore a list of ranked matches between the query image and the gallery images. We were initially provided with a small amount of data and we were free to collect as much data as we like to train our models. During the challenge day the organiser released the test set (which also contained distractor images) to measure the performance of the algorithms of all teams and to fill the leaderboard. We implemented transfer learning in our solution. We made use of imagenet pre-trained models and enhanced their capabilities in order to fit to our problem. Our team secured second position in the leaderboard among 7 teams.

Business Analytics for a Sustainable Telecommunication Market

Worked with the largest telecom operator in Italy, WindTre in order to explore new business avenues to invest, did market research, conducted statistical analysis and gave an elevator pitch before WindTre Business team with new investment proposal to expand their portfolio. I lead a team of 4 in this project and learned crucial team management & leadership skills. Challenge details can be found here.
